PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE:

Administrative Experience:

1/2002-to date          PENN STATE UNIVERSITY, OFFICE OF INTERNATIONAL PROGRAMS

                                  Doctoral Assistant (20 hrs per week)

Responsibilities: Write contractual documents, such as memoranda of understanding, memoranda of agreement, and letters of intent, for Penn State faculty and student-related international collaborative projects; maintain a university-wide database of international linkages activities. Assisted in managing the USIAD Association Liaison Office (ALO) and Tertiary Education Linkages Project (TELP) grants with the University of Durban-Westville, South Africa and in hosting co-curricular visits for international scholars. Developed a strategic plan for the subdivision of International Partnerships and Academic Linkages; Worked out and implemented an evaluation scheme of the outcomes of the ALO and TELP grants; Produced a final report on the ALO grant activities.

Responsibilities: Assisted in the administration of the national education technology challenge grants-the federal grant program for technology in K-12 education. Collaboration with researchers from several countries on interdisciplinary projects involving collection and analysis of data and dissemination of research on worldwide private higher education


12/2002-7/2003          International Dissertation Field Research Fellowship (awarded by the Social Science Research Council)

Principal Investigator: Fieldwork in Russia involving qualitative interviews, observations, document analysis

Responsibilities: Conducted 67 interviews with university rectors, vice-rectors, deans, faculty and government officials in 45 universities in Moscow, St. Petersburg, Novosibirsk, Barnaul, and Kursk.

Responsibilities: Assisted Prof. Gerald LeTendre with research in the field of comparative education. Created web pages, managed a listserv, and provided logistical support for the summer policy institute program.

Responsibilities: Assisted Prof. Roger Geiger with research in the field of economics of higher education and U.S. research universities. Collected institutional financial data through IPEDS and CASPAR databases, as well as through mailings; analyzed data on faculty salaries, expenditures and revenues of research universities, using SPSS, Microsoft Excel and Access databases.

                                 Graduate Research Assistant (20 hrs per week)

Responsibilities: Assisted Prof. Stephen Katsinas with research in the fields of History of Higher Education, Community College, Finance in Higher Education and Financial Aid. Conducted a nationwide survey of rural community college CEOs about issues related to economic development (assisted in the conceptual stage of the research design and in the development of the questionnaire; administered the mailings; collected, coded and analyzed the data). Assisted Vice President for Student Affairs and Prof. Penny Poplin Gosetti in the analysis of the data collected through a state agency student activity fees survey.
